heading out tomorrow

just wanted to get on and write.... I'm freaking out a little bit right now but I'm sure it'll all subside once I get on the road. It's just a little crazy to consider that I'm about to head out to ride across the country, going through 9 states, traveling 2400 miles to Mexico on my bicycle. I'm truly going to miss Columbus a lot while I'm gone and although I'm not sure the outcome of this trip, I'm sure I'll have plenty of stories to tell and will experience the wide variety of sights, sounds, smells and people that this country has to offer.

I'm heading out with one worry though, the dogs of Kentucky and whether the mace will work against them. :P

1 Week To Go!

Only 1 week until go time. I have everything I need (a part from waiting for a shipment of snacks and goodies to come in) and the bike is looking more and more like the bike that I want it to be. With just a week away and a weekend full of work left, the only thing that I'm worried about is making it to next week. I guess I'm also concerned about hurricane weather but not too much. I mean, I'll pretty much ride in any weather and stop if it gets too ridiculous. I mean how bad can a hurricane be to ride in? ;) (Be rest assured if you're reading this and you worried, I will seek shelter if weather is awful)
The bike that I'm taking is a 56 Surly Long Haul Trucker 26(for it's 26 inch wheelset for international travel) and it's pretty incredible. It's probably one of the most comfortable rides of my life. I'm fairly certain I'm going to despise it a little bit at times but for now, I'm floored. I can't wait!

Put the fun between your legs

So there's just a bit over two weeks to go until I'm gone daddy gone. I'm thinking a lot about little things that I plan on seeing along the way, checking the maps over and over, seeing the same stuff over and over, realizing that I'm honestly going to just have to look at them when I need them and go from there. There's only so much that you can plan for. I keep going through lists of stuff, taking it out, inspecting the quality of what I'm taking, figuring out whether I need to even take this thing or that thing. I've layed out everything and it seems more and more real, the more I plan for it.

The bike is going to be coming into the shop this week and I'll finally be able to build it up and get it going. :) It's been such a long time in the waiting that I'm so completely stoked to be able to finally get it. When I get the bike, I'm sure it'll all finally hit me. It may not be going cross country but it's definitely quite the trip.

Hour and half until take off to sin city

Arrived early to the airport and decided to have a drink.and a bite before we head out. Pretty stoked to go to las Vegas and have a ball with my friend Marie. It's gonna be a ball!
